Family Background
I'm Shao-Wei, Li. My English name is Vance. There are three members in my family, which includes my mom, sister and me. My parents got divorced while I was very young, which has made me unable to meet my dad so often. However, this didn't bring me down, it made me more independant than other kids of my age instead. My mom, a school teacher majoring in music, is a very liberal person. She once told me, "Do whatever you want but don't forget to think twice ahead." Thanks to her words, I become more responsible to my life and able to handle it without others' support. When faced with any obtacle, I would try to resolve them by myself. As to my sister, she is a student who loves designing and drawing. We are not only family but good friends. In conclusion, I love my family a lot and it has made me a better person.
School Life
I studied at Department of Applied Foreign Languages in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS). As a student majoring in English, studying English had become my daily routine. In addition to English textbooks, I also read English magazines, such as Advanced and Studio Classroom. They are very useful owing to the up-to-date information offered inside. What we could get from them is not only English improvement but the current trend of the world. Among every course, English listening and speaking, which was instructed by a foreign teacher, had always been my favorite. I think the most significant purpose of learning English is communication. As a result, I felt delightful when I found that I had no problems talking with a native English-speaker. Moreover, my friends and I participated in an English story-telling contest. Though we did not stand on top eventually, we learned a lot from the precious experience. With the encouragement of teachers, I took the General English Proficiency Test and passed the intermediate level.
I remember when I first stepped in the classroom and everyone seemed to be so shy and calm. However, after we got along with each others for years, it ended up that everyone who used to sit quietly on the chair turned into people who are very talkative and enthusiastic. I am no exception. As a quite humurous person, I often made my fellow students burst into laughter. We seldom had argument and always united together. That's the reason why I loved my classmates and was always willing to go to school.
As to my extracurricular activities, playing volleyball had been the most typical sport in our school. Almost all the students played it. However, as a freshman, I didn't even know the rules of volleyball. It was not until the volleyball competition approached that I started to practice. Besides me, lots of my fellow students also commenced to play volleyball. Eventually, playing volleyball had been the routine of our life. Every day, my friends and I stayed at school playing volleyball, which helped us a lot releasing the pressure from studies. Sometimes, on weekends, we even spent hours at school playing volleyball. There was so much fun and we all cherished the times we had been through. I hope we will all remember the days when we laughed, cried, shouted together.
Self-evaluation
I have been attracted by western culture since I was in junior high. As a result, I listen to English music and watch movies with English subtitles while others prefer the Chinese ones. It causes that my English-speaking and listening skills are usually better than my fellow students. Thanks to the interest in English, I learn English in my daily life as well, which makes it never too hard for me to study English. Besides English, I regard French as an important language in the world. Consequently, I started to learn French 3 years ago. Gradually, I found that there is a big difference between English and French. The former has easy grammar rules; however, the latter contains complicated grammar. Difficult as it is, I never give up. Instead, I determine to make every effort to be familiar with it and make French be my third language.
Influenced by my mom, I am also a music-lover or specifically a drummer. I have played drums for about 6 years. When I was young, I always wished that one day, in the future, I could play drums onstage, showing the world my music. Though I am now too busy to play drums so often, the dream deeply rooted in my mind never ends. Sincerely, I hope that, someday, I will retrieve my drum sticks and head to my dream.
I love to make friends and share my happiness with them. Thus, it's never tired for me to go out and hang around. In the free time, I usually play billiard, go fishing or play sports with my friends. I think they are very helpful ways to release my stress. Moreover, I happen to be an optimistic person. Hence, when bad things occur, I always stay calm and look for a good solution.
Future Perspective
I believe that I will still take English as my major in the future. To develop my English ability, National Taipei University of Technology will be the perfect environment for me and I will certainly choose the Department of English. Since the process of learning English is difficult and endless, I have to study every day to keep familiar to it. I will try to sharpen my English through some ways, which includes reading magazines, nevels written in English, practicing oral skills and so on. I hope that I will receive professional education so that I can make great progress in English. Therefore, I have been dreaming about being admitted to your university. And I will make every effort to realize my dream.
Conclusion
I hope all of above can show that I am a capable person and make me qualified for your school. If I have the chance to enter your school. I will certainly pay all effort to develop my abilities.

Autobiography - Sample 2
I am Tao. My English name is Angela. I am 17 years old. I am from Taipei First Girls' High School. I come from a well-to-do family. My mother passed away when I was in my first junior high year. My father is a computer engineer and remarried three years ago. My stepmother is an elementary school teacher. So I have a sweet stepbrother, who is now in the sixth grade. My grandparents live with us as well. My family get along pretty well.
Throughout my school years, my academic results have always been pretty good, except in the second half of the first year and the first half of the second year. It is because my mother's death was such a trauma to me. It took me more than a year to get better. My father was afraid that I would turn bad after that. So he encouraged me to join many extra-curricular activities. He sent me to piano class, ballet class and art class.
His purpose was that through music and art, I would find a way to release my pain so that my heart would be comforted. I am very grateful to my father's caring and thoughtful consideration. Ever since then, music is my spiritual guide and gradually becomes my most intimate companion. I then practice the piano very hard and make up my mind to become a pianist.
In my high school years, I have taken any chance to participate in school activities. I join the choir and jazz club, both clubs offering plenty of contests and performances for many occasions. We have won many contests and had been invited by the Mayor to perform in City Hall. I am also the member of art club, for I enjoy sketching and painting very much.
Every time when I have chance, I would go to the music theater to listen to symphony and orchestra performances. There is not once I would not be moved by the music. I really admire those musicians' talent, passion and dedication to music. I wish one day I would be able to become one of them, performing on the stage and touring around the world. That's my passion and expectation to myself. I hope you would give me a chance to fulfill it.

Autobiography - Sample 1
My name is Fang. I am now 17 years old. I have an English name called Matthew. I am studying in a private high school. There are five people in my family. My father is a military officer and my mother is a housewife. Both of my younger brother and sister are studying in junior high school. You might think that my family is a traditional and stern family because of my father; on the contrary, it is the opposite. My father is open-minded and a person of sense of humor. I must say that I am lucky to have such a happy family.
My father certainly has great influence on me, and I always look up to him. His passion and dedication to his job and family are the best things he gives us. He never forces us to do things we do not like. He gives us freedom of choice. That is why I can join so many school activities and have the chance to develop my hobbies.
I have been very active in school activities. I am one of the so-called computer freaks who just cannot keep their eyes off the computer screen. My friends know I am good in computer. As long as their computers have troubles, they would turn to me. I am also a pitcher on the school baseball team. Our team has won many, many matches; thus, we gained an honorable title of “unbeatable team.” I believe this resulted from our constant practice, hard work and our strong team spirit.
Although using computer and playing baseball take up most of my leisure time, I manage to spare some spare time to play the electronic guitar in a band. I use computer to make many of our songs into MIDI files and forward to many of my friends. My friends love them and think they are awesome. Being able to combine my knowledge of computer and music is my proudest thing. Don't get me wrong. I didn't neglect my study. Unless my grades in school are OK, my parents will not let me go for all these.
I have been interested in computer since I was in the fifth grade. That was the time when father had his big computer on his desk. Every time I saw father's face with great concentration while using computer, I developed my admiration to it. I said to myself, “I want to be like him one day.”
I liked to play around with my father's computer. One day I accidentally deleted one of my father's important files. I was so scared that my father would be furious with me. However, it was not the case. My father gave me a gift instead of punishment. I was so surprised. Guess what? Yes, I got a new computer. Ever since then, I have been addicted to computers, especially after the emerging of the Internet. Surfing the net has been one of my greatest hobbies.
The e-commerce has changed our traditional lifestyle. Take myself as an example, I keep in touch with my friends through e-mail messages, I send my greetings through e-cards, I buy books from e-bookstores, I shop from many websites and I search information from the searching engine.
Beyond doubt, the importance of the e-era has brought most powerful revolution to the business world. Banks and stock market transaction through the net, business to business direct transaction through the net and the space and time limitation no longer exist. I am fascinated with the new change and eager to take part in it. So I have decided to study in Computer and Information Science. I want to be a professional computer programmer who creates and designs the software to meet the needs of people in e-era.

Best Works of The Semester - 3
When I was young, I enjoyed walking on the street with my father, which was so peaceful that it seemed nothing could take away the calm. Just like the trees standing by the road with few leaves, everything was silent. I could not help but start to wonder if the time had stopped. It was in the winter when the earth pretended to stop rotating. I fell in love with the tranquillity that it brought. That is the reason why winter has been my favorite season. Many people, however, think what winter brings is nothing but disasters such as chill, coldness and starvation. In winter, everything is hopeless and ending in their eyes. Yet, what they have not noticed is the brand-new begining right behind the end. No matter how strong the wind is blowing, we should always remember that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow lies a seed waiting for the sunshine in the spring to become a new life.

I believe that only death makes people value their own life and stop committing crimes. Consequently, I certainly support using the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment. For instance, in Europe , those who commit crimes, such as homicide, robbery and sexual assault, are not afraid of being caught. Because they know that law itself is protecting them. The wrongdoer here is the forbidden death penalty. Criminals are therefore sent into jail. Their cost in jail is the taxes that we citizens pay. For most people or even the victims’ family, that is absolutely unacceptable. Besides, if the government practices the death penalty, people could feel safer. We do not have to worry about being robbed on the halfway of going to grocery store or killed just for peeking at someone on the road. In my opinion, the government should take action on guarding against the criminals instead of forbidding the death penalty.

Having a part-time job has several good effects on me. Firstly, I can earn a living by myself. Thus, I can buy whatever I want without parents’ permit. Secondly, by way of having a job, I realize how hard it is to support my own life. Also, I have learned to manage finances instead of spending out all the money. Last, I have known various kinds of co-workers and costumers. It helps me learn to deal with every sort of people. In conclusion, we students should find a part-time job because it would teach us lots of things that teachers don’t.

Setting a large factory in Acton might have some bad effects. First, there would be pollution of noise, water and air. The factory would release exhaust fume and waste water so that people in Acton might get sick easily. Besides, as the population increases, the enthusiasm may fade consequently. Old people, who have spent their all life in Acton would not like to end up in a place where they do not know anymore. Last but not the least, when a factory is opened, lots of trees would be felled down. Hence, wild animals would lose their homes. To sum up, entrepreneurs should not destroy a beautiful small town just for their own profit or they might spoil what is more precious.

I’ve made a decision of quitting my job in a restaurant. Firstly, the pay is so low that I cannot make ends meet. I can't even pay the loan of my scooter. Another reason is that I am taking the University Exam in about 10 months. Having a job might be a distraction while I am preparing for the exam. Most importantly, my body is getting worse owing to the job. Every time, after I finish my work, I feel so exhausted that I cannot even focus on anything. Day after day, I finally found that my body was not in good condition as it used to be. Due to these reasons, I’ve decided to quit my current job and reschedule my life.

Mr. Williams failed his business for several reasons. The first reason is that the location of the store was next to the lobby on the ground floor of the Fairfax Apartment Building on a small side street so that few people would notice it. Besides, there was a shopping center which included two large music stores just three miles away from his store. It could be a strong competitor for Mr. Williams’ small music store. Another reason is the style of the music that Mr. Williams bought. Most of the CDs were hip-hop and rock. However, the majority of the age of the residents in the Fairfax was at about 55. Consequently, these kinds of music might not appeal to them. In addition, the pay of the clerks was so high that Mr. Williams could hardly make both ends meet. Most importantly, the time when the store opened was too short. It closed after five o’clock so that student did not have the opportunity to buy CDs in it. To sum up, Mr. Williams should have planned well before he opened the store.

Nowadays, a lot of teenagers, even adults, are fond of meeting people through online dating sites. However, I am certainly against this current trend. The first reason is that people, especially the teens, might be deceived easily while chatting online with those who they do not know well. You might get hurt or lose your money or even life. Such cases are reported on newspaper frequently. Second, as the reality is always tougher than the virtual world, many people get addicted to it easily. Nevertheless, the virtual world is much more complicated. Those who would not face the music are often not self-controlled. They keep themselves in the virtual world and lose themselves. Last, while using the Internet, your personal information might be read secretly by hackers. If the password of your credit card is read by someone else, you would lose a large sum of money. To sum up, in my opinion, people should build their social life in real world instead of meeting someone they don’t know through the Internet.

Two people, Lynn Whitnall and Debra Fines, want to apply for a job as a English instructor. Comparing their résumés, I would like to hire Lynn Whitnall. The first reason is that Lynn masters more languages, such as Spanish, French and Japanese, than Debra does. Moreover, Lynn has more teaching experience. Lynn has been a teacher since 1997. However, Debra had been a teacher for only 5 years. Besides, Lynn got a teaching award in 2004 while Debra published an English book in 2006. In conclusion, I think experience is the most important requirement for a teacher. Consequently, I would certainly hire Lynn rather than Debra.

In Tainan, there are two great restaurants which are similar in some ways. One is called Tasty and the other one is called Pottery House. Both of them are close to Tainan Train Station. It costs 499 dollars to have a meal at Tasty. Similarly, it costs the same price to have a meal at Pottery House. Moreover, the way of ordering at Tasty and Pottery House are alike. People choose their appetizer, soup, main course, dessert and drinks respectively. Also, both of their food are western so that they attract lots of foreigners to have dinner there. Besides those similarities, Tasty often gives out coupons in order to lure costomers. Likewise, Pottery House gives them out, too. In my opinion, these two restaurants are the best places to enjoy a meal.

Mr. Williams failed his business for several reasons. The first reason is that the store’s location was next to the lobby on the ground floor of the Fairfax Apartment Building on a small side street so that few people would notice it. Besides, there was a shopping center which concluded two large music stores just three miles away from his store.

I’ve made a decision of quitting my job in a restaurant. Firstly, the pay is so low that I cannot make ends meet. I always spend all my money just after I get my pay. Another reason is that I am taking the University Exam in about 10 months. Having a job might be a distraction while I am preparing for the exam. Most importantly, my body is getting worse owing to the job. Every time, after I finished my work, I feel so exhausted that I cannot even focus on anything. Day after day, I finally found that my body was not in good condition as it used to be. Due to these reasons, I’ve decided to quit my current job and reschedule my life.

Expressing an Opinion - 2
I believe that only death makes people value their own life and stop committing crimes. Consequently, I certainly support using the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment. In Europe , those who commit crimes, such as homicide, robbery and sexual assault, are not afraid of being caught.

There are two apartments which differ in many ways. One is Fairfax APTs and the other one is CAMPUS APTs. I like the first one better for several reasons. Unlike CAMPUS APTs, Fairfax APTs is furnished. On the other hand, Fairfax APTs contains air-conditioners while CAMPUS APTs does'nt. Though Fairfax APTs' rent is higher than CAMPUS APTs' , Fairfax APTs has two large bedrooms while CAMPUS APTs only has one. If I choose Fairfax APTs, I will be able to have my own room instead of sharing the only room with my roommate. Besides the rent, the other flaw of Fairfax APTs is that pets are not allowed. Comparing these two apartments, I will choose Fairfax APTs for sure.

My favorite season (revised)
When I was young, I enjoyed walking on the street with my father, which was so peaceful that it seemed nothing could take away the calm. Just like the trees with few leaves, everything was silent. Yet, what they have not noticed is the
brand-new begining right behind the end. No matter how strong the wind is blowing, we should always remember that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow lies a seed waiting for the sunshine in the spring to become a new life.

How to do something (revised)
Reducing stress is very easy and important. The first thing you need to do is find out your own hobbies such as watching movies, playing music or playing football. Then, replan your schedule and try to think up some free time when you can do whatever you want. Next, find someone who has the same hobbies as you and ask them if they are willing to have fun with you. Last but not the least, do not always make yourself to achieve others' expectations. Your life will be better if you can get over the stress.

There is a simple experiment which can show that black is a better collector of solar energy than white. All you have to prepare is 2 tin cans, black and white paint and a room thermometer. The first thing you should do is to paint the cans – one black, one white. Next, fill the cans with water. Then, put the cans in direct sunlight for three hours. Finally, check the temperature of the water in the cans and compare. After following the steps above, you will find that the temperature of the water in the black can is higher. This can easily prove that black is able to collect more solar energy than white.

An unforgettable experience (revised1)
When I was young, I used to go to the cinema with my family. I did not expect it would have gone wrong. It happened about 6 years ago when I went to see a horror movie at a dreadful night. The movie began as we were seated. I was frightened by the scary scene in the movie and I felt like going to the restroom. Consequently, I stood up and went through the crowd toward the gate of the theater. With the fear I stepped into the restroom but saw no one. However, when I was leaving, a man in black suddenly showed up right behind me. I cried out loud and rushed out. Since I was freaked out, I just could not remember which room was the right one. I chose a room randomly, hurrying to my seat. Yet, the only thing I saw was a strange woman gazing at me with confusion. Then I entered another room, looking for my mother. But it was still the wrong one. Noticing that I looked worried, a clerk walked toward me, asking me if I needed help. I told her what had happened to me and asked her if she could tell me the right room. She was just like my saviour. With her help, I found my mother successfully. From then on, I checked my room number every time before I see a movie in the cinema.

She could not believe that her husband had died AGAIN. Linda's mother introduced her to a psychiatrist because she became hysterical. After one day, Jim came back to life again. But he was gone the next day. Against the misery, Linda commenced to figure out what was exactly happening to her and her family. She made a calendar and found that the order of her all week was messy. That is why her husband would revive and die during those days. Eventually, she found that it was herself that killed Jim by accident. Though Jim was dead, Linda knew how much her husband loved her before the car accident. What Jim left were not only two adorable daughters but also a new life in Linda's belly.
